In Tokyo, build a wooden 70-story skyscraper

Japanese company Sumitomo Forestry announced its plans to build a 70-storey skyscraper in wood in Tokyo last year, and recently, at last, presented a detailed plan for the construction of this unusual structure. According to preliminary calculations, the company will spend about 5.5 billion dollars and 185,000 cubic meters of wooden building materials on its construction.

Skyscraper height of 350 meters will be the first 70-storey wooden building. Now the maximum height of wooden houses in Japan does not exceed seven floors, so the project will be unique in its way. The construction of the skyscraper will be reinforced with a steel frame – this will allow it to withstand earthquakes.

The total area of the building will be 450,000 square meters, which will house offices, hotels and apartments. The authors of the project promise to decorate the interior with decorative waterfalls and refractory plants. The materials spent on building this skyscraper could be enough for eight thousand standard wooden houses, which usually builds Sumitomo Forestry on its standard projects.

Before you start building a 70-story skyscraper, builders will create a reduced copy of fourteen floors high – this will once again carefully calculate all the nuances of the design and identify its weaknesses. The building is planned to be completed by 2041.
